Temperance

What is Temperance? Temperance refers to self-control and moderation, particularly regarding desires, appetites, or emotions. It is the discipline to resist excess and make balanced choices that promote well-being. Temperance is evident in habits such as healthy eating, responsible use of resources, and thoughtful speech. This virtue empowers individuals to avoid harmful extremes and live a life marked by balance and harmony. 2 Peter 1:5-6 “For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness.”

Faith

What is Faith?
Faith is a deep trust or confidence in something or someone. While often associated with religious belief, faith can also refer to trust in people, ideals, or the future. This virtue enables individuals to remain hopeful and resilient in the face of uncertainty or adversity. Faith fosters perseverance, encourages optimism, and provides a sense of purpose that transcends immediate circumstances. Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”
Gentleness is characterized by kindness, calmness, and a considerate approach to others. It avoids harshness or aggression and embraces empathy and compassion. Gentle individuals are approachable and create safe spaces for honest communication, nurturing trust and understanding in relationships. Philippians 4:5: "Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near."
What is Goodness?
Goodness is the quality of being morally upright, kind, and benevolent. It reflects a person's desire to do what is right, to help others, and to act with integrity. Goodness is not just about avoiding wrong but also about actively seeking opportunities to make 2 Peter 2:15 “For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge.”

Goodness

Meekness is the quality of being gentle, humble, and patient, especially when facing provocation or adversity. Contrary to weakness, meekness is a strength that enables a person to respond to challenges with calm self- control rather than aggression. Meek individuals are slow to anger, open to learning, and willing to listen to others, qualities that are essential for peaceful coexistence and conflict resolution. 2 Corinthians 10:1 “Now I, Paul, myself urge you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ—I who am meek when face to face with you, but bold toward you when absent!”
